Niche Site Duel 001: Introduction (Following Pat Flynn From The Smart Passive Income Blog)

by Amir Rimer on December 26, 2011

If you have completed my Flip Course training you already know that I make money online by selling simple html websites on Flippa.com

Yet, selling simple html websites on Flippa is not my only source of income.

I also make money as an affiliate marketer, website owner, and by selling websites to private buyers.

This is also what I think you should do if you are a website flipper like me.

Don’t just sell websites on Flippa, but try to create many streams of income for yourself.

Once you created an extra stream of income for yourself (for example selling your own product on Clickbank) you can actually use Flippa as a marketing tool to drive traffic to your website as I suggested in my previous post “Flippa In NOT Your Business, But Your Business CARD“.

The main thing I want to say is:

That you should never every rely on a single source of income.

Not Flippa, not Clickbank, not eBay, not Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc..

It’s great if you are currently making an income as a result of using one of those websites,  but always keep in mind that even though all of those companies are thriving today they can be out of business tomorrow.

So, if you are making money from selling websites on Flippa that’s great, but your next challenge is to create another stream of income for yourself, for example, selling your own product on Clickbank or selling other people products (affiliate marketing) or maybe create your own blog and make money through Adsense, for example.

All the successful people I follow online do this.

They try to diverse their income streams as much as possible.

An amazing example for this is the great Blogger Pat Flynn From The Smart Passive Income Blog that I am following for quite some time now.

If you take a close look at one of his monthly income reports you will see how well he diversifies his income. He doesn’t only earn a great income from Affiliate Marketing, for example, but he also earns great incomes from selling his own products, adsense, consultation, Iphone apps, etc..

One of Pat’s best series of posts is, in my opinion, the “Niche Site Dual Challange‘ that he did with the blogger Tyrone Shum.

In this challenge Tyrone has challenged Pat for a friendly challenge to see how well they are able to make passive income from niche sites.

So, after reading  ’The Challenge Introduction‘ I have decided to join in as well!

My Plans:

Unlike the sites that I sell on Flippa, I don’t plan on selling the niche site that I create in this challenge.

I am also not planning on outsourcing the work, bur rather create the site entirely myself.

My Challenges:

I don’t like to use the word ‘difficulties’, but surely the major challenges that I will need to overcome in Pat’s “course” are:

Keyword Research,  and Traffic Generation.

I did a general overview, so I am not sure if I will encounter other challanges as well, but just from my general overview I can already see that Keyword Research, and Traffic Generation are two issues that will be challenging for me.

You see,  the main theme of my ‘Flip Course‘ is: create a website as fast you can, and then sell it as fast as you can on Flippa, and then just keep repeating the process.

Yet, as I see it now, and I may be wrong here because I have only read the first post on Pat’s Niche Challenge, Pat is trying to create authority sites that he is planing to nourish for months and even years.

Meaning, he will work very hard on things, like Keyword Research, and Traffic Generation,  that I personally have barely touched before:

I am specifically writing “Barely” because I know a little bit about Keyword Research and Traffic Generation, and even backlinking from my personal websites, but my knowledge in those areas is so brief that it is not worth even going into.

The Rule

I am going to follow Pat’s rule, and not use paid advertising to drive traffic, so all the traffic to the site will come from search engine traffic, or referrals.

After reading about this challenge, and seeing how well Pat has been able to create for himself another good income stream I have decided to follow his course post by post, and document here my entire process.

From now on whenever you see a post with the title “Niche Site Duel…” you will know that I have posted another report on my progress.

The Next Step

Ok, so I am now at the end of Pat’s first challenge post, and I see that his next step is to look for a profitable niche.

Finding a profitable niche is actually something I know something about, but I have decided that I am going to put aside everything I know, and just fully learn, and implement everything Pat teaches in his course.

To my way of thinking, creating authority sites to nourish for months and even years makes complete sense. If you do a decent job and can drive traffic to the site, it should create a sustainable and hopefully substantial income. If you don’t do such a great job, you can always flip the site (which now has some age and hopefully some regular income) and get a much better price.

Good Luck and Best Wishes

Hi Carl,

Great points.

I admit that I have a problem to let go of websites that I keep for months and years, because I become too attached to the website, but selling a website after it made profit / traffic is surely something one can do.

Thanks!

Hi Amir!
This is actually my first time on your blog and I am already impressed by your accomplishments and your success. You are definitely the one buddy I want to learn from, as to “how to make money online”. Even though both the concept and the process seem somewhat complicated, you make them look so easy. I think it has to do with your “qualifications” as a teacher and also because you care about the next door fellow.
At this time I have a lot on my plate like we say, but I can assure you I am definitely interested in getting some coaching from you, Amir. No kidding!
Amir, I am glad we’re friends!
Best wishes to you and your family.
Until next exchange, God willing

Hi Zakia,

I know that the flipping websites process may seem complicated, but I don’t think that it is more complicated than any other skill you learn – seo, affiliate marketing, blogging, etc..

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I am glad that we are friends as well, and best wishes to you and your family.

Good luck!

Hi Yehduah,

Wow, thanks for the link!

I have been following Yaro for years now, and I have actually purchased his coaching program when it was available.

We also did an interview once, I am still searching my hard drive for the transcript.

I have listened to all his interviews a few months ago, but I will listen to this interview again.

Thanks for sharing this with us!
