One of that main things I have tried to avoid in the 3 years that I have been selling websites on Flippa is to register .INFO domains, yet because I am always trying to follow my own advice, I have just recently started to sell .info domains as well!
The results have been nothing short of amazing.
So amazing, that I am not sure why I haven’t register .info domains before.
You see, if you are selling simple websites, as I teach how to sell in my Flip Course and Blogs Flip video training programs, you are basically trying to make an income on Flippa by selling many simple websites.
You may prefer that each of your websites will sell for $300 or more, but usually you know that’s not the case.
Usually you just hope to cover your expenses, and maybe make a few dollars of profit per website.
Yet, if you have read my previous blog post “Flippa In NOT Your Business, But Your Business CARD” you know that is the whole point.
So, because I know that I sell each website very cheaply, I want to keep my expenses as low as possible.
If you are like me, and you sell your websites on Flippa and get paid via Paypal, there are some expenses that are kind of set in stone.
I am referring of course to expenses like the Flippa’s listing and success fee, and Paypal’s Transaction fee.
So, besides the PLR Package you buy, the only expense you can actually control is how much you pay for your domains.
If you register .com domains through Namecheap you should pay around $9.98 per a .com domain, yet if you register the same domain name with a .info extension you will only pay $2.99 per domain (that’s $6.99 less).
So, right from the start, I knew that I can lower my expenses quite dramatically just by changing my domains extension from .COM to .INFO, yet what I was not sure about was the demand for .info domains.
After all, I could have put many auctions with .info domains, and get zero bids.
No matter where you go online you will always find someone who will tell you that you should always register domains with a .com extension (then .net / .org), and that .info domains should really be avoided.
I can understand the reasoning beyond this, and I will also advice the same.
Yet, the reality is (as I have found out) that many website buyers don’t think this way.
So, my point in this post is just to let you know that .info domains do sell on Flippa, and that you should try to list websites with .info domains to test if they work for you as well.
If you will see that .info domains sell as well as .com domains that’s great – you just lowered your expenses, and if not you can always go back to registering .com domains.
Hope this help.

Amir: I Recommend 1&1 Internet for domain names. The charge for a .com is 4.99 for the first year and for a .info it is .99 for the first year. They also offer web hosting.
Hi Ed,
Yes, the prices do look very good, yet I have to admit that I have used 1&1′s hosting and domain registrar in the past, and I was not very happy with their service .
Nowadays, I prefer to use Hostgator for hosting, and Namcheap for registering domains.
What I like about Hosgator and Namecheap is that every action I do on their sites, like creating an add-on domain, I do it instantly, yet with 1&1 I always need to wait in ‘pending mode’ for my additions / changes to take effect.
I personally don’t have the patience to wait as a website flipper. Websites buyers want to get the sites they buy from me fast.
If you do decide to go with 1&1 I strongly suggest that you also check how easy it is to transfer domains from their registrar to your buyers.
If you can’t transfer domains or if it takes more than 24 hours I highly suggest that you will not use them for your flipping websites business.
Thanks for your recommendation!
Amir
Just search for anything on Google and you may be surprised to see that there are more .info than .net or.org websites ranking on page one in quite a few cases. I became aware of this some time ago and I don’t hesitate to use .info domains now. The best choice is of course .com but they are hard to get whereas .info is often available and a good choice as far as ranking in search is concerned. JM.
Hi John,
I agree with what you are writing here.
The best choice is .com, but there is nothing wrong with .info if you can’t find a good .com domain.
.INFO domains are cheaper to register, and they are good as well.
Thanks!
Amir
Great advice Amir – a .info site with the right mix of articles and backlinks can easily rank about dot coms and dot nets
Thanks for your comment!
Thanks . Good to know about . info
Thanks Aram!
Hi Amir
Your recent email news said
Fguild.com member Mike has recently listed his auction, take a look!
I took a look and there appears to be missing links, bad corners to top of headers and large words inside the recent posts section.
Do people really buy this sort of rubbish?
If so, what would they pay for a decent site?
regards David
Hi David,
I respect your opinion, but I personally don’t think it’s is rubbish.
What matters to many buyers who buy websites that generate money / traffic is mainly results.
Some sellers have beautiful websites which don’t make a single dime, yet other sellers have issues with their sites, but make all the money.
So, the answer to your question is:
Of course, people will buy any sites that they feel will make them money.
I don’t know what they will pay for it, because selling sites that make money / traffic is not my niche, but if you do have a site that makes money that you want to sell, I suggest that you put it on auction with a reserve price that you feel comfortable with to test.
Thanks for your great comment!

Hi Amir,
I’ve just bought a website from flippa, it is http://www.buyautoblog.info
I am also worrying about if “dot info” works or not, but as the name “buyautoblog” is good, I bought it without hesitation.
Hope it will be a right choice.
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
I think .info domains are very underrated.
If you do things right you can make .info blogs successful as well.
Thanks!
